Domestic Violence

The Phoenix Battering Intervention and Prevention Program’s mission is to eliminate violence in intimate relationships. In working toward this goal, the Phoenix program teaches that domestic violence is a learned behavior, not a disease or sickness.

The Phoenix program, accredited by the Texas Council on Family Violence in February 2011, includes a risk assessment, an orientation session, and a minimum of 26 weeks of group sessions for the offenders. In the program, offenders are held accountable for past abusive behaviors and taught the fundamentals of leading a nonviolent lifestyle by examining the beliefs and thinking processes that serve to maintain their distorted sense of entitlement, power plays, and other indicators of male privilege.

Although the Phoenix program works directly with offenders, a consistent goal of the program is to enhance the safety of battered women and their children. Providing services for the victims of family violence is vital, and taking action to stop future violence against victims is also necessary. Battering intervention and prevention programs create the possibility of actually stopping future violence.

Group fees are $30.00 per session. The initial Risk Assessment and Program Orientation fee is $50.00. Program members who are unable to pay due to catastrophic events may request reduced program fees. These circumstances must be verifiable and must meet the criteria set forth in the program rules and regulations, as determined by SFI staff.
