Treatment Programs
The Clinic Director at SFI, Janice Hull, has authored
several offender treatment programs.
The
ZENITH SEX OFFENDER TREATMENT PROGRAM
The ZENITH SEX OFFENDER TREATMENT PROGRAM is a structured, cognitive-behavioral
treatment program that consists of three main Program Phases, as well
as an Aftercare program, and spans 3 to 5 years of weekly treatment.
The program explains special treatment considerations, such as a probationary
group (for offenders in non-compliance with program expectations) and
some considerations for individual therapy. Some of the treatment modules
within the three Program Phases include the Dynamics of Abuse module,
the Cognitive Distortions, Chains, and Bad Tapes module, the Denial
versus Responsibility module, the Cycle of Abuse module, the Victim
Empathy module, the Deviant Sexual Arousal module, and the Relapse Prevention
module. Specific group exercises, as well as examinations and special
assignments, are included in the Instructor's Manual. All assignments,
including regular or daily assignments and formal Phase assignments,
are fully explained. A complete Chaperone Training Program is offered
and explained, including the Chaperone-in-Training Contract and the
permanent Chaperone Contract.

The
APOLLO PROJECT (Violence Prevention Program)
THE APOLLO PROJECT (Violence Prevention Program) is a treatment
program designed for those who experience chronic rage, have lost
control of their feelings or behaviors because of this extreme anger,
or have caused harm to another individual or the property of someone
else because of this anger. The program is more intensive than many
anger management programs. It is a highly structured, cognitive-behavioral
treatment program that is designed to target the thinking errors
many offenders utilize in many parts of their lives. The program
spans a minimum group attendance of 40 sessions, with graduation
occurring after all proficiency demonstrations have been successfully
met. One of the requirements of the program is the inclusion of
a beginning, full-disclosure polygraph examination and a maintenance
or specific-issue polygraph examination at the end of the program,
to help determine whether the offender has remained violence free
during the time of attendance in the program. Group exercises, as
well as homework assignments and examinations, are fully explained.
Progress reporting forms are also offered.

The
NOVA ADOLESCENT OFFENDER PROGRAM
The NOVA (Adolescent Offender Program) is a structured offender treatment
program that consists of a minimum attendance of 50 weeks in treatment,
as well as the successful completion of several change demonstrations.
Though the program was designed primarily for adolescent sex offenders,
it includes as much material on anger management/impulse control/violence
prevention as it does on specific sex offending issues. This is because
of the author's belief that adolescents require attention to many areas.
The adolescent offenders submit to a full-disclosure clinical issue-type
polygraph examination at the beginning of treatment. They submit to
a maintenance or specific-issue polygraph examination prior to graduation
from the program. Parents or guardians living in the home with the adolescent
offender must attend a specialized and an ongoing chaperone-training
program. The instructor's manual includes exercise and assignment explanations,
and the examinations are included. The Chaperone training program is
included.

The
MANAGING ANGER DAILY (MAD) PROGRAM
The MANAGING ANGER DAILY (MAD) PROGRAM is a twelve-week psycho-educational
program that focuses on the anger that many individuals experience.
Though the program is largely instructional in format, group process
offers the support, direction, and important feedback these individuals
often need. The goal of the MAD program is to assist group members in
identifying their dysfunctional thought-feeling-behavior chains and
help them learn to replace these with healthier alternatives. The program
teaches the skills that are necessary for motivated individuals to then
practice the new cognitive skills until healthier, happier habits are
in place. Several types and levels of anger reducers are explained,
practiced, and monitored by the group participants. Group members are
taught to analyze the consequences of their actions and to implement
assertive responses in many areas of their lives. All group exercises
and assignments are fully explained.
